I am a retired (2007) university lecturer in Animal Biology and Conservation. During that time we visited a number of interesting places for field work and as sandwich placement visits. Many of these have been geophotographed.

For the past ten years I have had arthritis in my knees which has curtailed my ability to gad about, so my geophotographing these days is limited.

I have been spending time in retirement to scan my collection of slides taken over the past 45 years, including many geographs. many of these have been taken on holiday, and on field courses in various parts of Britain.

Here are my top twenty images (by hits). I am intrigued why some of these images have proved so popular in terms of hits. In particular, why are people keen on my pics of sewage works?

Edward Clack

I am now a licensor for a series of aerial photographs taken in the late eighties by Edward Clack.

Edward joined the RAF in October 1942 and has been a pilot since 1956. He spent 20 happy years as Chief Flying Instructor with Southend Light Aviation Centre starting in 1968, flying some 15,000 hours himself and supervising about 100,000 hours. Always a keen photographer, he was able to see beauty where others cannot, and aerial photography fitted easily into his role as instructor. As a long-time member of the Essex Wildlife Trust, he willingly agreed to fly over the Castle Point area to record the woodlands and nature reserves here for us. Out of that came a project to sell copies of these pictures to people whose houses happened to be included in those photos, which soon led to taking more pictures of the urban areas, principally as a fund-raising exercise. This became so popular that producing the prints became onerous and Edward offered to sell the copyright to the Trust so that the administration of the system was by trust volunteers. Edward is now in his 80s and has, sadly, lost much of his sight. He is pleased, however, that his aerial photos are having a new lease of life.

The copyright of these is now held by the Essex Wildlife Trust Link and the 640-pixel images are placed on Geograph with their permission.

When I have done scanning the aerial photos for Geograph, I will provide a link to a more comprehensive set for those interested. This will also provide a facility to purchase prints.
